‘Thrilling’ Debut at All-Tech: Schilling, Wegner LS 427 Engine Turn Heads in Florida

LAKE CITY, FL – The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco partnered with Casey Wegner of Wegner Automotive to develop a more affordable engine combination for the series and affiliate BD Motorsports Media LLC tracks.

The Wegner-built ‘Weekend Warrior’ LS 427 was born and incorporated into the series’ 2022 rule book.

During the recently completed ‘Sunshine Swing’ at RACETRACK99 in Lake City, Fla., Capital District driver David Schilling turned heads with the engine, available through Wegner Automotive of Markesan, Wis., for $22,500.

East Greenbush, N.Y.’s Schilling drove into the Beyea Custom Headers Redraw during two of three completed events and earned two top-10 finishes, the latter of which turned heads throughout Wendell Durrance’s half-mile facility.

Schilling started the Friday feature from 21st position in his PMC-built chassis and at one point had climbed to fourth position before crossing the Sunoco Race Fuels checkered flag sixth.

Ultimately, he finished seventh in the overall ‘Sunshine Swing’ standings with more than 40 STSS Modified competitors registered.

The $22,500 Wegner Automotive ‘Weekend Warrior’ LS 427 is a turn-key race engine which comes dyno-tested, fully encrypted and sealed to prevent tampering. In addition, a hydraulic roller cam makes for a durable, low maintenance setup.

The ‘Weekend Warrior’ produces 750 horsepower and 625 foot-pounds of torque.
